Most printers here melt filament (FDM). Resin printers cure liquid resin with light and print finer detail, but need ventilation, gloves and an alcohol wash after every print. A “Combo” listing bundles the printer with its multi-colour unit, such as Bambu Lab’s AMS or Creality’s CFS, and has its own price record apart from the printer alone, so check which of the two a price belongs to. An open printer with a moving bed, such as the Bambu Lab A1 or a Creality Ender, is the cheapest way in; an enclosed one also prints ABS and ASA, which warp in open air. Build volume is given in millimetres, 256 × 256 × 256 mm being a common mid-size. Almost every current printer takes 1.75 mm filament, and PLA, the easiest material, costs about $13 to $25 a kilogram.
