Why SSDs cost more in 2026

An SSD is mostly NAND flash, and NAND has followed DRAM up: TrendForce’s survey of July 3, 2026 forecast NAND contract prices up a further 10–15% in the third quarter, from levels it called record highs, with AI inference and data centers taking the supply. Micron announced on December 3, 2025 that it would stop shipping Crucial SSDs and memory to retailers after February 2026.

Contract prices are what drive makers pay for the chips; the drives on Amazon follow them at their own pace.
