After-Christmas sales start on Saturday, December 26, 2026, the day after Christmas. Amazon announces no sale of its own for those days in the US. The test for a price that week is the item’s own Black Friday low.

Amazon names and dates Black Friday Week and Prime Big Deal Days, and says nothing of the days after December 25, so there is no Amazon banner to hold a late-December price up to. The measure is the one for any other week: what the same item cost at Amazon before, and above all the lowest it reached in November.

Bought in November, cheaper in December

In 2023, 2024 and 2025, most items bought from November 1 to December 31 could go back until January 31, and Apple products until January 15. If 2026 follows them, an item bought on Black Friday that costs less after Christmas can be ordered again at the lower price and the first one returned. Amazon has not announced the 2026 terms yet.

From December 1, the products whose price really fell during Black Friday week, each with what it costs today. From January 1, each product’s lowest price from December 26 to 31 against its lowest during Black Friday week, with a difference under 5% counted as the same price.

Was the After-Christmas price real?

For every product we track, we take the lowest price we recorded from December 26 to December 31 and set it against the median price it held over the 45 days from October 28 to December 11, or over the days since we began watching it, where that came later and leaves at least 14. The comparison stops two weeks before the sale, so a price raised in the run-up cannot pass for the normal one. A cut has to be at least 5% below that. We judge a product only when one seller held it through the baseline and set its sale low too: when Amazon restocks under a reseller’s price, the price falls without anyone cutting it.

The report appears here on January 1, the day after the sale ends. Until then there is nothing honest to say about it.
