Prime Big Deal Days 2026: 56% of prices really fell
Prime Big Deal Days ran from October 6 to October 7, 2026. Of the 189 products we recorded before and during it, 107 (56%) were really cheaper and 15 cost more than before. The median real cut was 15%. On September 22–23, before the sale, the same test found 16%.

Members only
The prices are for Prime members. A saving smaller than what the membership costs you is not a saving, and that sum can be done before the day.
Before the next one: Are Amazon Lightning Deals worth it?.
Was the Prime Big Deal Days price real?
For every product we track, we take the lowest price we recorded from October 6 to October 7 and set it against the median price it held over the 14 days from September 8 to September 21, or over the days since we began watching it, where that came later and leaves at least 14. The comparison stops two weeks before the sale, so a price raised in the run-up cannot pass for the normal one. A cut has to be at least 5% below that. We judge a product only when one seller held it through the baseline and set its sale low too: when Amazon restocks under a reseller’s price, the price falls without anyone cutting it.
That baseline is 14 days rather than the usual 45: we began recording prices on September 8 and cannot compare against days we did not watch.
Of 189 products we recorded through both windows, 107 (56%) were really cheaper during Prime Big Deal Days and 15 cost more than before. The median real cut was 15%.
For scale, the same test on September 22–23, the days just after that baseline, found 33 of 197 (16%) as far below their usual price. A sale is worth what it adds to that.

Before the sale
In the 14 days before it opened (September 22–October 5), 45 of the 107 real cuts (42%) were already at their sale price or lower, 32 of them more than a week ahead (September 22–28). Those could be had without waiting for it.
Since the sale
Within 14 days of its last day (October 9–21), 36 of the 107 real cuts (33%) were at their sale price or lower: a price that came back, or never left.
The day after the sale is left out: a deal that ends at midnight is still the last price we read until the next reading.
Where the cuts were
The same count by shelf and by brand, wherever we judged at least 10 products; with fewer, a share says more about which products they were than about the sale.
| Shelf | Judged | Really cheaper | Median cut |
|---|---|---|---|
| Headphones | 26 | 24 (92%) | 10% |
| Coffee & espresso machines | 19 | 15 (78%) | 16% |

| Kitchen | 53 | 30 (56%) | 17% |

The prices sold as deals
3330 of the products we track carried an Amazon deal badge on a day of the sale: a Lightning Deal, a limited-time deal or a Prime-only price. We could judge 88 of them by the test above, and 87 (98%) were really cheaper.
Amazon said the deals in this sale were “most at Amazon’s lowest price of the year so far” (aboutamazon.com, Oct 6). Of the 2608 badged prices we could check against the 30 days before them, 45 (1%) were more than $1 and 3% above a price the same item had in those days: for those, the deal was not the lowest price of the year, or of the month.
A second yardstick, and not ours. In the EU a price may be announced as reduced only against the lowest price the seller charged in the 30 days before it (Directive 98/6/EC, Article 6a), and the Court of Justice ruled in 2024 that a price presented as reduced cannot be the same as that earlier price or higher (C-330/23). The rule does not bind Amazon in the United States. Held to it, at least 137 of the 2608 badged prices we could check (5%) were no lower than a price the same item had already had in those 30 days.
“At least”, because our record can show that an item had been this cheap before and cannot show that it had not: the days before we began watching it may hold a lower price still. A badged price is checked only where we had recorded 14 or more of those days. They end when the badged price took effect, or, where a badge went onto a price that had already stood 3 days or more without one, on the day the badge appeared.

Questions people ask
- Were the Prime Big Deal Days 2026 deals real?
- For 56% of the products we checked, yes. Of the 189 we recorded before and during it, 107 were really cheaper, each at least 5% under what it usually costs (the median cut was 15%), and 15 cost more than before. On September 22–23, with no sale on, the same test found 16%: a sale is worth what it adds to that.
- When is Prime Big Deal Days 2026?
- Tuesday, October 6, and Wednesday, October 7, 2026, for 48 hours from 12:01 a.m. PT (3:01 a.m. ET) on the 6th, as Amazon announced on September 15. The four October sales before it ran October 11–12, 2022 (then called the Prime Early Access Sale), October 10–11, 2023, October 8–9, 2024 and October 7–8, 2025.
- Do you need Prime for Prime Big Deal Days?
- Yes: its deal prices are for Prime members. Prime is $14.99 a month or $139 a year, Prime for Young Adults $7.49 a month, and new members can start with a free trial; a monthly plan can be cancelled once the sale is over.
- How long does Prime Big Deal Days last?
- Two days: 48 hours from 12:01 a.m. PT on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 through Wednesday, October 7. Every October sale since 2022 has run for two days. A Lightning Deal inside it can end sooner, when its allotted units sell out.
- Is Prime Big Deal Days the same as Prime Day?
- No. Prime Day is Amazon’s main members-only sale, held in June in 2026 (June 23–26). Prime Big Deal Days is the second, two-day one Amazon has run each October since 2022.
- How do I tell a real Prime Big Deal Days discount from a fake one?
- Compare the sale price with what the same item cost at the same retailer in the weeks before, not with the crossed-out price beside it. A price raised in September and cut in October is still marked as a discount. This page lists the items whose price rose in the past month and what they cost before the rise.
